How water affects the change of colors.

Problem Statement: Which color changes the most in the view of the eye when in contact with water at different depths and lengths?

Method & Materials: -Underwater Camera (2)
- Laminated color cards: Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green
-Computer
-Scanner
-Pool (10 feet by 16 feet)
-Scuba gear (mask, flippers, scuba tank, etc.)
-Tape measure

First, assemble the scuba gear that is shown above. Second, take pictures of the different colors out of the water. This will be the control. Next, put on the scuba gear and enter the water. Be positively buoyant, and have two lab partners in the water. Next, use the ruler tape and measure 4 feet between each partner. Next give a color to one partner, and give an underwater camera to the other. Stay on the surface of the water, but be able to see underwater. The partner with the color card holds it just below the surface and the other partner with a camera takes a picture of the card underwater from four feet away. Repeat this process with the other color cards. When finished with that use the ruler tape again and measure ten feet between each partner. The lab partners should still be positively buoyant. Do the same thing as before, taking pictures of the different colors but this time at ten feet away. After finishing that, repeat the same process as before but this time do it at sixteen feet deep. When finished taking all of the pictures take it to a photo shop to develop it. The pictures cannot be enhanced in any way. When the pictures are developed find a computer with the software of Adobe PhotoShop. The computer also has to be hooked up to a scanner. Scan the pictures into Adobe PhotoShop. Then note the amount of a certain color is in that picture. Do this for all of the pictures, and then record the results in a table.

Results: Look at Display of Results.

Conclusion: The orange color card changed the most out of the five color cards that we tested at different lengths and depths.
