Materials:

1. Paper Towel
2. Daphnia
3. Depression Slide (indented)
4. Beaker
5. Water
6. Stop Watch
7. Ice
8. Video Microscope
9. Microscope
10. Computer
11. Thermometer attached to computer
12. Dropper

 

Method:

1. Put water of three different temperatures into the three beakers.
2. The temperatures should be:
1. Control- 23.3 degrees c
2. Warm- 36.5 degrees c
3. Cold- 15 degrees c
3. VERY Cold- 5 degrees c
4. Put a daphnia on a microscope slide.
5. Using the dropper, drop the control water onto the daphnia.
6. Looking through the microscope count the heart beats per minute.
7. Record Results.
8. Repeat steps two through five using next the warm water, then the cold water, than the VERY cold water.
