LAND:
Materials:
® About 2 liters of water

® 2 liter bottle

® Thermometer holder

® Goggles

® Bike pump with a pressure gauge

® Permanent pen

® Tire valve in a bottle cap

® Ruler

Method:
1. With the ruler mark the thermometer holder every cm.

2. Fill the bottle up to the top with water.

3. Place the thermometer holder upside down into the bottle and screw on the cap.

4. Secure the tire valve to the bike bump.

5. Pump the bike pump one time and record the air space in the thermometer holder and the psi.

6. Repeat this process but do not let the psi exceed 80 psi.

WATER:
Materials:
® The same thermometer holder used in the land experiment with the markings on it

® An underwater etch-a-sketch

® 16 ft deep pool

® A string with markings every foot connected to something that floats

® Scuba equipment

Method:

1. Place the sting connected to something that floats above the deepest part of the pool.

2. Have one person hold the thermometer holder upside down and go 2 ft down into the water.

3. Have the other person record the depth and the air space in the thermometer holder on the etch-a-sketch.

4. Keep on repeating this until you have reached the bottom of the pool.
