The graphs below measure the pressure for each test. Included are the maximum pressures and minimum pressures that allowed us to get the percentage of pressure drop for each test.

 

Regular Air

When we tested regular air, the pressure dropped an average of about 14 percent. 

 

60 percent nitrogen/40 percent oxygen

When we tested the 60 percent nitrogen/40 percemt oxygen, the pressure dropped an average of about 18 percent.

 

50 percent nitrogen/50 percent oxygen

When we tested the 50 percent nitrogen/50 percent oxygen, the pressure dropped to an average percentage of 22 percent.

 

 

This is an animation of the flame being extinguished. The flame extinguished because fire uses up oxygen. According to Dalton's Law, when the oxygen is used up, the remaining pressure should be equal to the original partial pressure of the nitrogen.

 

Conclusion: In our project, when the oxygen was removed, the pressure remaining was not equal to the original partial pressure of the nitrogen. However, this was caused by experimental error. If we had a more professional way to perform the experiment, we think we could have obtained the expected results.
